About
Galvanizing |

| What
is the need for Mechanical Galvanizing? Although hot dip galvanizing has proven by far to be the best choice for corrosion protection of steel, some small parts may be difficult to hot dip effectively. Fasteners, bolts, and other connectors that require close tolerances or clean threads could very easily require extensive after-galvanizing clean up. Mechanical galvanizing delivers both the solid protection of zinc and the smoothness and uniformity required for this type application. |

| How
does the Process work? 1. Parts are cleaned, either by an acid pickling process or by using a degreaser/descaler. 2. Parts are loaded into a plastic or rubber-lined tumbler along with varying sizes of glass beads. 3. Water and starter are added to provide the correct chemical balance for the coating process. 4. A small quantity of metal is added to the now rotating tumbler, producing a "flashover" of the parts. Zinc dust is then added to the process. The impact media (glass beads) cold welds the zinc to the parts. 5. Coating thickness is checked and once the desired level is achieved, parts are rinsed and separated from the media. Material is packaged and ready for shipment. For quotes or more information on the Mechanical Galvanizing process, please contact our Georgia location at (800)782-3972. |
